iCANSleep will be the first evidence-based insomnia treatment smartphone app tailored to the unique concerns of cancer survivors in Canada.
The iCANSleep research study was developed by the Sleep, Health, and Wellness Lab at Memorial University of Newfoundland. We are investigating innovative ways to deliver an insomnia treatment, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), to cancer survivors. The iCANSleep app is specifically tailored to the unique needs of cancer survivors. We are currently testing the feasibility and acceptability of the iCANSleep app; it is not available on the app store yet. Once our testing is complete, we will have a fully developed insomnia treatment app for cancer survivors on both iOS and android OS devices to access on the app store for free.
In each of the 7 week-long modules, you will be assigned short articles to read. Some examples include managing worries, sleep and pain, and personal stories of cancer survivors who have tried the treatment.
Every morning when you wake up, you will complete a sleep diary. You will be asked questions about your sleep from the previous night, including what time you got into bed, how many times you woke up during the night, and what time you woke up.
At the end of each module, the app will calculate an ideal sleep window based on your previous week of sleep. This is called your sleep prescription. Your sleep prescription may change each week as your sleep changes throughout the program.
